Welcome to Week 15 of the Authenticity@Work Leadership Tool-kit! My intention for this series is to share a quick tool each week to help you lead with more authenticity, adaptability and inspiration so we can together create workplaces where we bring the best of ourselves and inspire others. So grab a journal and an accountability partner to make these practices even more powerful for you!
In last week’s post we discussed how to find your authenticity posture and how to notice when your body is telling you what challenges your authenticity. What regular practices have you committed to, to connect with and reduce stress in your body?
Whole Body Leadership is a way to use the intelligence in your entire body and nervous system in the exercise of your leadership. It involves developing conscious awareness of what is happening in your body in this moment and leading through actively centering yourself. Pick a daily practice that will help you connect with your body, release tension, and return to your center. One of the exciting areas where I’m working with my executive coaching clients is in helping them create sustained results through embodied leadership.
Our embodied leadership helps us better lead ourselves and others.
As we fine-tune our connection to our bodies, it helps us listen not just to our own being but also helps us become significantly more capable of tuning in to others by being fully present to them, listening for what helps them come alive and when they are disengaged. These are important clues to influencing others and, equally important, learning how to bring aliveness and engagement into our teams and organizations.
This Week’s Tool:
Commit to a daily practice of connection and gratitude for your body. In the shower or bath, take a few minutes every day to thank each part of your body for how it serves you. For example, I thank my ears for letting me have fun with some of my favorite ABBA music. I thank my legs for the joy of dance that they bring me.
